Yesterday, the acting class was simply amazing! We are preparing
our play, which will be showcased at the end of July at Mountview Academy of
Theatre Arts. The play is being written directed by Tom Hescott and Written by Thomas
Morton Smith, who was nominated in 2006, by the Hampstead Theatre to be one
of The 50, a writer's group put together by the BBC and the Royal Court to
nurture playwriting talent.
Memory is the
theme in which the play will be based. The
movement exercises, improvisation and the research we have done serve to explore
this complex concept, helping us immerse into the universe of the play and
making us familiar with it, even without the text.Actually, yesterday we had access to some drafts of the scenes. I never saw our
group so enthusiastic and energetic; exploring those drafts as if we´d never
seen white paper with words written on it. I felt like a child when I was playing scenes and being really curious about what
was coming next, about the journey of the characters.
My concentration sometimes is doubled to make sure that I can
understand the meaning of each word and focusing on pronouncing them properly. So
when I have the command of this technical part, I am free to let myself go and
emerge myself into other aspects of the play. But my English and my apprehension of
the words is much faster now. Sometimes I feel that I pay more attention to the
words and their meaning when I am reading in English than when I do it in my
own mother tongue; I think it´s because I
am so comfortable in my own language that I take many things for granted and I
end up losing important details. So, I
think that´s the positive aspect of having English as a second language.
At the end: always
look at the bright side of life!!
